The tropical woodlands of the Nilgiris are known locally as 'Sholas' meaning 'tropical rain forest' in the Tamil language.

As well as boasting amazing wildlife, the Sholas also flourish with wild plants and flowers.

Because the terrain is so diverse in the Nilgiris, a wide range of wild plants can be seen, and in the gardens and parks, cultivated plants brought here in the British era can be enjoyed.
